If the plug on your Echo Meter Touch module and the data port on your smartphone or tablet are not of the same type, you need an adapter in order to connect the two.
To identify the type of plug on your Echo Meter Touch module, see What type of plug does my Echo Meter Touch module have?.
To identify the type of data port on your Android or iOS device, see What type of data port does my phone or tablet have?.
Not all combinations of Echo Meter Touch module and Android or iOS device are compatible. See Echo Meter Touch 2 Device Compatibility to make sure your module and Android or iOS device are compatible. If they are not compatible, it does not matter what type of adapter you use.
To use an adapter between Micro-USB and USB-C with the Echo Meter Touch, the adapter must be designed to support USB on-the-go (OTG).
USB OTG support means the adapter is wired to allow your phone or tablet to act as the host to an external peripheral like the Echo Meter Touch module. The vast majority of commonly available adapters are designed for your phone to act as the peripheral to a computer, which acts as the host.
A USB adapter will not work with the EMT module unless it is designed for USB OTG use.
If you need to connect a Micro-USB-equipped Echo Meter Touch module with a USB-C-equipped, Android or iOS phone or tablet, you will need a USB OTG adapter with a Micro-USB socket and a USB-C plug, also referred to as “Micro-USB female, USB-C male.”
Note that the adapter must be on-the-go (OTG) compatible and the description should specify that. Some brands make adapters that are OTG-compatible and other adapters that are not.
If you need to connect a USB-C-equipped Echo Meter Touch module with a Micro-USB-equipped Android phone or tablet, you will need an adapter with a USB-C socket and a Micro-USB plug, also referred to as “USB-C female, Micro-USB male.” The adapter needs to be explicitly labeled as supporting OTG.
If you need to connect a Lightning-equipped Echo Meter Touch module with a USB-C-equipped iOS device (iPhone or iPad), you must use Apple’s official USB-C to Lightning Adapter, available through Apple’s website and at Apple stores.
We have tested adapters with the same physical connections from multiple manufacturers, but Apple’s official adapter is the only option we have found to work.
Apple's policies prevent USB-C-equipped EMT modules from working with Lightning-equipped iOS devices. This is true even if you use an adapter that fits both connections.
