Echo Meter Touch and Apple iOS 11
Many first generation (black) Echo Meter Touch 1 modules need to be updated at a service center to work with iOS 11
Update: October 9, 2017
Dear Customers,
We previously sent out a Technical Service Bulletin alerting you that
first generation Echo Meter Touch units ( black EMT1 modules) did not
work with iOS devices running Apple's new iPhone and iPad operating
system, iOS 11. Second generation Echo Meter Touch modules (red EMT2 and
EMT2Pro modules) are not affected.
Since that email, our investigation has concluded that the issue is in
the communication between the EMT1 module and the iOS device. This only
affects modules with serial numbers greater than EMT00494 (number 495
and higher). The only way to fix the issue is with a firmware update to
the EMT1 module. Unfortunately, that update cannot be performed by the
user, so we will need to recall and fix all affected modules. You will
need to ship your module(s) to either our North American headquarters,
our service center in the UK, or our service center in Australia,
whichever is more convenient for you. All updates will be performed free
of charge and shipped back to you as quickly as possible. For North America and Australia service centers, a recall form is available here and includes shipping instructions. Please print the form, fill it out, and include
with the returned module(s). For our UK service center, please fill out
the form here to receive a return number and instructions.
We are readying our service centers now, we expect to be ready to turn
around modules on or before October 23rd. At that time we will complete
the work and return modules within 5 business days of receipt.
As part of the update, EMT1 units will also gain the ability to have their
firmware updated through an app in case there is ever again a
compatibility problem with some future Apple iOS release.
Again, second generation Echo Meter Touch modules (red EMT2 and EMT2Pro
modules) are not affected and also already have the ability for updating
firmware through the app if the need should ever arise.
Thank you for your patience as we work through these updates and we are
very sorry for this inconvenience. As a gesture of goodwill we will
donate US$10 for each unit returned to us before January 31, 2018 split
between Bat Conservation International and Bat Conservation Trust.
