Our world is alive with the sounds of the wild. But how do we take those vocalizations and transform them into learnings that advance scientific research into our planet’s rich biodiversity?
It was on a family hike in the Adirondacks that an idea came to Wildlife Acoustics founder and CEO, Ian Agranat. While identifying various bird songs, Agranat’s brother-in-law wondered if it’d be possible to create a device capable of classifying bird species by their call. Inspired, Agranat set to work developing just such a product.
Initially targeting the consumer market, Agranat’s technology caught the eye of the U.S.D.A. Forest Service and U.S. Geological Survey, which asked him to develop a recorder that could count and identify bird and frog species more efficiently than point counting. Energized by this opportunity, Agranat created a more advanced, robust recording device, which helped him secure partnerships with more government agencies. And Wildlife Acoustics was born.
Now the leading supplier of professional wildlife acoustic monitoring systems, Wildlife Acoustics works diligently to create tools that help researchers and professionals across the globe conduct impactful research. And it’s that purpose that drives us every day.
