Song Meter is a cost-effective digital audio recorder specically designed to monitor wildlife populations, such as birds and frogs, in harsh outdoor environments over extended periods of time.
You can program Song Meter to record automatically on a schedule. Song Meter has the battery life and memory capacity to record for 100 hours spread out through several weeks, or even months.
Listen to actual sample recordings made by Song Meters deployed in the field.
Song Meter recordings can also be analyzed automatically by Song Scope software to quickly locate species of interest.
This is a picture of Song Meter's weather-proof enclosure in a tree (click the image for a larger view). Song Meter weighs only 3 pounds with batteries and measures around 8.5 x 7 x 2.5 inches.
The Song Meter is easy to use and can be configured directly with the built-in display. Song Meter runs on 4 ordinary "D" batteries (either off-the-shelf Alkaline or rechargeable NiMH) and saves recordings to one or two standard SD, SDHC, MMC or MMC Plus flash cards.

The following photographs show a Song Meter SM1-MP model (external power and microphone cables) with Song Meter SMX microphones and a solar panel. The Song Meter can record on power from the solar panel alone on bright days. In actual deployments, the solar panel would be used to recharge a small sealed lead acid battery which, in turn, would power the Song Meter.
